Twin airline pilots retire by landing at Heathrow together



Twin brothers have retired as airline pilots, landing their final flights 30 seconds apart. Captains Jeremy and Nick Hart marked their 60th birthdays on Thursday by landing their planes together at Heathrow Airport.

Man held after three-year-old dropped in river in Bolton



Police were called to Astley Bridge in Bolton at 20:30 BST where a 39-year-old man was threatening to drop the girl into the water. Despite attempts by specialist negotiators, the man dropped the child from a height of 30 feet before falling in himself.

Animal cruelty sentences to rise to five years in prison



People in England who commit the most serious crimes of animal cruelty could face up to five years in prison, the government has said. The move - an increase on the current six-month maximum sentence - follows a number of cases where English courts wanted to hand down tougher sentences.
